The Devon Collaborative Outreach Network is run by Plymouth University, and works in partnership with the University of St Mark and St John, Plymouth College of Art and other partner colleges, and will cover around 80 schools in the county as well as South East Cornwall and areas of Somerset.
The aim is to raise awareness of higher education through outreach activities, and focuses on increasing accessibility in geographical cold spots.
Other issues, such as under-representation of target groups in HE, will also be tackled. The network is part of a national programme that will see more than 200 universities work with 4,300 schools across 35 local networks.
Professor David Coslett, Interim Vice-Chancellor of Plymouth University, said:
“We will be able to build on the school outreach work we already do across the region, and work with local schools to ensure every pupil has a chance to learn about higher education in the classroom, online and through local outreach activity.”
