Brixham Laboratory

The Brixham Laboratory was taken on by the University from former owner AstraZeneca in May 2014, and has since been transformed into a hub for local, national and international businesses.

It is currently more than 90 per cent occupied and is home to over 30 tenant organisations providing more than 130 jobs and attracting investors, innovators and customers from Europe, Asia and America.

Its clients include an anchor tenant, Scymaris, which provides ecotoxicology, environmental and analytical chemistry services to the agrochemical, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

Other tenants include a wide variety of small and medium-sized organisations across the marine, photonics, business services and charity sectors, many of whom work closely with the University to create research and employment opportunities.

Molendotech

Established to commercialise the work of Professor Simon Jackson, Molendotech has developed an innovative assay that is able to rapidly identify the concentration of faecal bacteria in water without the need to wait days for laboratory results. It can deliver results in a matter of minutes, significantly improving the ability to identify and track any pollution source. In 2018, the company entered into a collaboration agreement with Palintest Limited to bring the test to market and develop further products.

ARC Marine

ARC Marine is a marine eco-engineering company who specialise in designing and constructing bespoke marine habitats. It has been working closely with researchers from the Faculty of Science and Engineering to create a series of structures designed to raise awareness of the potential benefits of artificial reefs in the marine environment.
