“I would absolutely recommend studying at Plymouth. In fact, I have recommended it to people because the overall atmosphere of the University, as well as the quality of lecturers and professors teaching at the University, means that it is the perfect place to learn.”
Tell us about your career path since graduation.
I managed to secure my job before finishing university and went straight into work after graduating. In the past three months I have been doing what I trained for at university, which means that the transition has been fairly smooth. I am currently in the process of looking to become accredited by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) within the next two years.
What is the best, most exciting or fun thing that you have done in your career (or that you’re most looking forward to)?
Working on live construction projects and being able to visit a site and see a building being constructed is something that I have enjoyed and continue to look forward to, and something which I hope I will do a lot more of as I progress through my profession.
What, if anything, would you have done differently at university?
I wish that I had looked more into the industry, the day to day requirements, and knowledge required so that I could get a head start before beginning work. It’s really important to be ahead of the game, especially during the interview process.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to get in to the same line of work?
Learn software as soon as possible because this makes you, as an employee, hugely valuable within a company. This is perhaps the most important thing I’ve realised going through the application process myself: make yourself stand out and therefore make the most of your time at university.
How did studying at Plymouth help you?
The modules covered on your degree at Plymouth University are well ahead of modules at other universities, and it was mainly because of this that I had a head start when applying for jobs.
Would you recommend undertaking a course with Plymouth University, and why?
I would absolutely recommend studying at Plymouth. In fact, I have recommended it to people because the overall atmosphere of the University, as well as the quality of lecturers and professors teaching at the University, means that it is the perfect place to learn.
