As part of our commitment to the city's Mayflower 400 commemorations, the University is proud to be supporting the young people's anthology of writing for the three years to 2020.
A different Mayflower-based theme each year, to be interpreted as widely as entrants wish, will produce a beautiful collection of poetry, prose and stories to celebrate this grand anniversary.
University of Plymouth students and academics are central to the project from start to finish, with BA (Hons) English with Publishing students delivering creative writing workshops in schools, an MA Publishing student project managing each edition right through to production, with the support of an editorial board.
The work of
Dr Kathryn Napier Gray , Associate Professor in Early American Literature has underpinned and informed the whole project. Kathryn’s guidance even steered the performance given by storyteller Katy Cawkwell, who brought the Mayflower story to life at this year’s launch event through a dramatic reading.
Each year the students will help to shortlist entries for the panel and select those to be included in the anthology.
BA (Hons) Illustration and
BA (Hons) Fine Art students will then creatively enhance the selected pieces, while the University of Plymouth Press, guided by Paul Honeywill, will carefully craft the editorial and publishing elements to produce the final piece.
Our participating students were also part of the launch event, showcasing the role they each had in creating this year's Anthology alongside all the wonderful contributors from local schools and the community.
