Field trips

We undertake a number of field trips as part of the programme which provide you with a unique insight into the industry, building upon the learning material delivered within the MSc.

Our current residential field trip is hosted by Nireus in Greece. Nireus specialise in the production of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata), European sea bass (Dicentrachus labrax) and meagre (Argyrosomus regius). These are high-value fish species which are recognised and well-received by consumers. With the vertical integration of production, Nireus control and secure all the stages of production, from the brood stock to the final food product. 

The field trip includes visits to commercial hatcheries, on-growing facilities, fish processing and packaging facilities and an aquafeed production plant. The visit therefore provides experiential learning of the aquaculture industry “from farm to fork” with a hands-on feel for marine fish aquaculture.

Other trips field trips include day visits to hatcheries and farms in the South West.

Field trip costs (entrance fees, transportation, flights, hotels) are included within the course tuition fee, and do not require additional financial contribution from students. However, students are required to meet subsistence costs and any visa fees if applicable.
