History with Art History

The history team are delighted to welcome Louis Halewood as the Philip Nicholas Trust Lecturer in Maritime History at the University of Plymouth. Louis joins us from Merton College, Oxford, where he worked on his DPhil thesis titled 'Internationalising Sea Power: Ideas of World Order and the Maintenance of Peace, 1890-1919'. In 2018/19 he was the Smith Richardson Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship in International Security Studies at Yale University. His research interests include modern maritime and naval history with a focus on World War I. Louis will be offering maritime history modules on Sea Power in History, 1815-1991 and the First World War at Sea.

The trustees of the Philip Nicholas Trust said

''We could not be more delighted with the appointment of Louis Halewood, a rising star in maritime history. His appointment will allow many more students to engage with the world's maritime past."
