Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust (PHNT)
PHNT is the largest hospital in the South West Peninsula, delivering comprehensive secondary and tertiary healthcare to the local community as well as extensive training and education for a wide range of healthcare professionals. Derriford is one of Europe’s largest hospitals; a centre for neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, kidney and stem cell transplantation and other tertiary services; and the only trauma centre in Devon and Cornwall. The hospital is in the top 10% of Trusts for Standardised Mortality Rates and recently received a national patient safety award in recognition of its achievements in reducing healthcare associated infections. The South West Cardiothoracic Centre, Ministry of Defence Hospital Unit and British Antarctic Survey Medical Unit are also housed within the Trust, as well as a significant translational research centre.

General Practices
Plymouth and the surrounding area have a wide range of General Practices, delivering high quality “expert generalist” care in a range of settings: in large and small practices, in rural and urban neighbourhoods and in areas of wealth and significant deprivation. GPs often have specialist expertise and additional interests in, for example, management, diabetes, dermatology, minor surgery, sports medicine, expedition medicine and mental health. In addition many of our GPs have specific skills in medical education and, as well as training students who visit their practices on placement, also work as small group facilitators and teachers in other areas of the undergraduate programme.

Livewell Southwest
Livewell Southwest is an independent, award winning social enterprise providing integrated health and social care services for people across Plymouth, South Hams and West Devon, as well as some specialist services for people living in parts of Devon and Cornwall.

Serving the NHS workforce, the Centre aims to provide a state-of-the-art environment where people can explore new ideas, learn new techniques and observe and reflect on clinical practice together.
