Midwifery students

Ambre Brown, 1st year midwifery student and cohort rep

The placement element of the degree is fantastic. I am a better learner when I do things practically so doing a degree where you spend 55% of your time on placement is perfect. When applying I felt this gave me the reassurance that I would enjoy the course and have plenty of opportunities to learn and grow throughout the three years

All of our lecturers have been very enthusiastic, great to learn from and are amazingly helpful and supportive. They all share a great passion for our chosen future career.

Victoria Shaw, 1st year midwifery student

Before starting the course, I studied Biology at Reading University where I developed a fascination with embryology and developmental biology. When I was looking at potential careers in this field, someone asked me if I had ever thought about midwifery. This planted a seed of thought and now here I am! I really wanted to have a career working with people and I’ve always loved medicine and the idea of working in a hospital so this seemed like a good combination and so far I absolutely love the course!

For me, the placement is the best part of the course. You go out into placement after just 8 weeks of theory. Of course it is a little daunting at first but it is an amazing experience and you learn so much. I think that this career is one that you just need to get stuck in from the outset; so going out on placement is the best way to do that.

I have really enjoyed the course so far and I’m excited for what the rest of the year and the following two years have in store. I can’t wait to hopefully become a qualified midwife.
