Mr Coleman has also been granted an Honorary Senior Lectureship (Associate Professor). 

His appointment is the latest in a number which have seen senior clinical staff from Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust also taking key roles in the education of medical students at Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. 

Mr Coleman is Lead Clinician for Colorectal Surgery at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust and was appointed in 2001. His main areas of interest include laparoscopic bowel surgery for cancer, diverticular and inflammatory bowel diseases, and he is a national trainer for laparoscopic bowel surgery. 

He performs a number of other procedures including splenectomy, cholecystectomy, inguinal and incisional hernia repair, colonoscopy and gastroscopy. 

On his appointment to Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, Mr Coleman said: Having spent many years in medical education, mostly at postgraduate level, I am delighted and excited to have been appointed to this new post in undergraduate education.”
