PG Open Evening

Plymouth University is holding an open evening on Wednesday 9 March to showcase its wide range of postgraduate courses.

From finance to fine art and business to biology, academic and professional support staff from the University will be answering questions and giving guidance about the programmes and opportunities available.

Finance experts will also be on hand to explain how students up to the age of 60 can borrow up to £10,000 for taught and research masters programmes starting in the 2016/17 academic year. The loan was announced as part of the Chancellor’s 2014 Autumn Statement, and will be available for all full-time, part-time and distance learning masters programmes.

The evening takes place at the University’s main campus and a programme will be given on arrival with a list of scheduled activities. Guided tours will also be given to showcase the teaching facilities and recreational spaces.

Professor Dafydd Moore, Pro Vice-Chancellor Research, who is delivering the evening’s welcome talk, said:

“There are so many options for postgraduate study here at Plymouth, and we look forward to welcoming anyone who has ever even considered it. We are ranking as one of the top 50 universities in the UK for research, with nearly two-thirds of our research graded as world-leading or of international quality in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. This means that our postgraduate students are supported and supervised by staff who are international experts in their field.

“There will be representatives on hand from arts and humanities, business, science and engineering, health and human sciences, and the Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, so whatever you are interested in doing, please come along and have a chat to us.

"The new loan could make studying a viable option for people who might not otherwise have been able to do it. Embarking on a postgraduate programme is a major decision, and one for which you may need further advice and guidance to help you to make your final choice, and staff will be on hand to help with these practical matters too. The important thing is to come along, discover the opportunities available and decide whether you want to rise to the challenge of postgraduate study.”
