Clearing 2018 campaign

The University of Plymouth is offering tailored support to students looking to begin their studies in the city from this September.

Hundreds of thousands of students have recently completed their A levels and will receive results on Thursday 16 August which will determine their future choices.

Thousands of others, including mature and returning students, are also exploring their options as they look to get back into education.

But whatever their current status, the University has expert advisers on hand to guide them through the confirmation and Clearing process and the huge range of opportunities that are available.

For several weeks, prospective students have been signing up to receive this dedicated support through advance Clearing, and there is still time for others to follow suit.

Part of the University’s ongoing focus to take the stress out of results day, it aims to ensure students make the choice which best suits their aspirations, and gives them the chance to talk with lecturers in their chosen subject area.

Students registering for advance Clearing will also be eligible for priority treatment on results day itself, including a dedicated hotline number to beat the call centre queues or opting for University staff to call them.

David Alder, Chief Marketing Officer at the University, said:

“Results day is always a stressful time but we have people to help reduce the panic as much as possible. And it is important is to remember that whether you exceed or fall short of your expectations, there will be options. It may still seem some way off, but with so many available opportunities it is vital to get in touch with us now so that we can help you make the best possible decision for your future.”

Among the options available this year are the regular undergraduate courses, and there are dozens of subject combinations to choose from.

But if that’s not the most appropriate option, or they need a few more UCAS points to progress on their first choice programme, students can look at doing a foundation course.

The University has several available, particularly in the sciences and engineering, and last year more than 70 per cent of those who signed up for one of those courses progressed onto a full degree.

It is also possible to get more information about degree apprenticeships, the government initiative designed to enable people to earn while they learn.
