The Hepatology Research Group works closely with the South West Liver Unit to deliver a range of observational studies and interventional trials in many liver conditions.

Therapeutic intervention trials

We recruit patients to national trials of new therapies for:
  • Metabolic-dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (previously known as NAFLD)
  • Alcohol-related liver disease including alcohol-related hepatitis
  • Primary biliary cholangitis
  • Primary sclerosing cholangitis
  • Complications of cirrhosis (ascites and varices)
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma
  • Viral Hepatitis

Observational studies

We conduct a range of national registry studies in:
  • Metabolic-dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (previously known as NAFLD)
  • Autoimmune hepatitis
  • Primary biliary cholangitis
  • IgG4 related disease
  • Drug induced liver injury
