The University of Plymouth are proud to be a partner on Marine-i, designed to help the marine technology sector in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly grow through research, development and innovation.
Over the next 20 years, marine technology will be transformed as a new wave of innovation allows us to exploit the full potential of our oceans in ways that were previously not possible. Bringing these new technologies to market will demand new ways of thinking and Marine-i will be pivotal in ensuring new levels of collaboration across different scientific and technical disciplines.

Through Marine-i, you can access a range of research support, innovative new technologies and world-class facilities at the University of Plymouth that can:

Marine-i is part funded up to £6.8 million from the England European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) Growth Programme 2014-20. The Department for Communities and Local Government is the Managing Authority for ERDF.

Marine is in our past and our future
Our history is rooted in the marine sector. The University first opened as a school of navigation in 1862, and is now home to the University’s Marine Institute, first and largest such institute in the UK.
Our COAST (Coastal, Ocean And Sediment Transport) Laboratory can be used for physical model testing with combined waves, currents and wind offered at scales appropriate for device testing, array testing, environmental modelling and coastal engineering.
Our high-frequency radar system has overlooked the Wave Hub test site for offshore renewables since 2011 and can offer historic and live surface current measurements and directional wave spectra for a variety of applications.
Our team of experts in electrical, mechanical, ocean science and technology will support marine businesses in areas of research, testing and evaluation, working in or alongside the companies.
