Pamela Barden

Consultant, PJ Barden; instructor, University of California LA extension; adjust instructor, University of La Verne, USA

"I learned fundraising through trial and error, and began to invest in helping others avoid 'error' through knowledge when I started my consulting firm.

"Through regular articles, webinars, speaking engagements and co-authoring the 4th edition of The Complete Guide to Fundraising Management (releasing in 2017), I try to pass on what I’ve learned as a fundraiser. While working on my doctorate, I found fundraisers often did not know how to positively impact legislative and regulatory change to strengthen, not harm, fundraising.

"I joined Rogare’s advisory panel to have a role in helping disseminate information to and encourage action by my colleagues."

Pamela Barden is passionate about fundraising, having begun in the profession after completing her BA at Wheaton (Illinois) College. She served three nonprofit organisations throughout her career, earning an MBA from Dominican (Illinois) University along the way. She began her business in 2009 to help small- to mid-sized nonprofit organisations that deserved – but couldn’t always afford – experienced fundraising counsel. In addition to working with clients, Pamela teaches fundraising courses for UCLA Extension where she was a 2014 recipient of the Distinguished Instructor Award, and the University of La Verne’s Masters of Science programme. Pamela received a Doctor of Business Administration degree in 2015.
