"I teach on the undergraduate geology courses at the University of Plymouth. It is great fun being able to inspire and enthuse the next generation of geoscientists. I am probably best known for my BBC television programmes about the planet: most recently, Rise of the Continents, Earth – the Power of the Planet, How Earth Made Us and Volcano Live.
My TV work involves trips around the world, which are wonderful opportunities to communicate the research I have carried out over the years on plate tectonics and geohazards, particularly in terms of earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.
The overlapping diversity of disciplines here at Plymouth makes it a great place to study geology and our fantastic geological ‘backyard’ is ideal for an outstanding range of fieldwork experiences."
