Mrs Amy King

Media and Communications Officer

Communication Services (External Relations)

Role

I am a member of the Media and Communications team at the University of Plymouth, and am principal media liaison for Health, Medicine, Dentistry and Psychology.

I also co-write the weekly Staff and Student Bulletins, and co-ordinate the University's annual National Student Survey (NSS) campaign.

Within my role, I have helped secure national and international coverage for a huge range of subjects through outlets including the BBC, The Guardian, The Times, Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, Daily Express, and other publications throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Among my responsibilities, I:

  • Develop communications plans to ensure stories and messages reach the desired audiences
  • Create high-quality written content - often tackling complex subjects - to share throughout the University's channels and wider media
  • Provide video interviews to accompany written articles
  • Provide media training for academics and support staff to help them share their work more widely

Qualifications

I am a University of Plymouth graduate (BA Hons English) and former print journalist with South Hams Newspapers. I handled publicity for horse welfare charity The Mare and Foal Sanctuary before joining the University's media team in 2015.

I attend the annual Medical Press Officers' conference (hosted by the Medical Research Council, NIHR and Wellcome Trust) and maintain regular links with communications leads around the UK to ensure Plymouth and its work is on the map.
