Mr Andy Atfield
Profiles

Mr Andy Atfield

Senior Technician (Biochemistry & Toxicology)

School of Biological and Marine Sciences (Faculty of Science and Engineering)

Role

Biochemistry and Toxicology Technician

Qualifications

BSc Marine Biology. MSc Applied Marine Science

Professional membership

Associate Fellow Higher Education Academy

Teaching interests

Ecotoxicological and biochemical methods, both experimental and assay based. I enjoy teaching core laboratory skills to students who have either missed the opportunity or overlooked this key scientific skill. Good laboratory practice and an understanding of scientific techniques are not the most glamorous of subjects but underpin all that our students move on to do.

Research interests

  • Biomarkers of toxicological, environmental and developmental stress
  • Physiological responses to a changing environment
  • Nanotoxicology
  • Method development and troubleshooting
