Research interests
As a medical student I became interested in the role of neural oscillations in normal and pathological brain function. In order to pursue this interest I undertook an academic foundation job followed by DPhil in the Oxford Functional Neurosurgery under the supervision of Prof. Alexander Green. I also spent time at FMRIB (now WIN), supervised by Dr. Ricarda Menke. I used techniques including intracranial local field potential recording, diffusion weighted MRI and functional MRI to study the neural control of autonomic nervous system activity, with a focus on the neural control of the urinary bladder.
Since moving to Plymouth, I joined Prof. David Parkinson's group in order to gain experience of working with surgical animal models. I am currently working within the wider Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence to understand the role of Hippo signalling in ependymoma tumour development. Alongside this I have ongoing interests in continence and have been involved in the British Neurosurgical Trainee Research Collaborative project "Understanding Cauda Equina Syndrome", the International Continence Society neuro-urology working group and undertaking further work with my DPhil data. I am also collaborating with the Oral Microbiome Research Group on a project related to brain abscess development.
