Senior Technician (Electronics)

I support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and knowledge transfer. I provide technical support for staff and students primarily within School of Engineering, Computing & Mathematics. My main subject areas are but not limited to Power Electronics and power conversion, Radio and High Frequency electronics, PCB design, circuit simulation and layout, analogue and digital electronic circuits and computing technologies.

Acer Computer Australia

Supervising engineer of mainboard repair centre at Acer Australia

During this period I was the Workshop Supervisor. I was responsible for the motherboard repair and parts reclaim teams for Acer Australia and New Zealand. I used previous knowledge and experience to instigate work flow reform and change testing procedures so as to increase production. Production went up from an average of seventy boards a day to over one hundred and twenty boards a day. Due to the improved final testing procedures the average Defective On Arrival rate was significantly reduced. Inventory levels of boards awaiting repair also fell significantly with the improved testing and repair times.

§ Responsible for the timely diagnosis and repair of all products.

§ Fault find, diagnose and repair electronic circuit boards to component level.

§ Write fault finding work instructions based on my findings.

§ Responsible for new employee selection, testing and interviewing.

§ Responsible for the reporting of the teams performance to the division managers.

§ Assess individual team member performance and grade accordingly for quarterly key performance indicator reviews.

§ Train Engineers in the use of tools, test equipment and the understanding of the repair processes.


Electronic Repair Solutions (ERS)

Mainboard repair technician

Location Plymouth, United Kingdom

During this period I was a Cell Technician responsible for repairing faulty motherboards from an Acer notebook family. I instigated work flow reform and changed final testing procedures so as to increase production. Production for my product group went from an average of thirty boards a day to over one hundred boards a day.

§ Head technician in a repair cell consisting of a dozen team members.

§ Fault find, diagnose and repair electronic circuit boards to component level.

§ Read, Interpret, understand and write fault finding work instructions.

§ Repair electronic equipment using related hand, power, and soldering tools.

§ Prepare paperwork associated with the product (non-conformance reports, work orders, etc.)

§ Responsible for the coordination of production operators, assemblers and night shift technicians.

§ Work actively to meet the goals of the production in a quality oriented and efficient manner.

§ Train assemblers in the use of tools, test equipment and the understanding of the repair processes.
