Research interests

I love doing research. Its the part of my job that really stretches me and give me the greatest job satisfaction.

My PhD work began in parallel programming of Numerical Mathematics (working on compute intensive iterative problems like the Eigen problem). However, it wasn't long until I was visualizing my algorithms to gain new insight into their convergence properties (see my PhD publications). This was the start of my interest in Data Visualization which is now better known as Information Visualization and Visual Analytics. I am interested in
  • Information Visualization
  • Visual Data Analysis
  • Animation, Glyph technology
  • Virtual Reality, 3D Visualization
  • Data Mining
  • Software Engineering.

Other research

Due to the trans-disciplinary nature of Information Visualization, my research overlaps with other disciplines. I have enjoyed researching in many domains including

  • Medical NHS Research - Critical Care

  • Neuroscience and Neurophysiology
  • Artificial Life
  • Civil Engineering.
