Specifically, I am using evidence from the EarlyCretaceous sedimentary deposits of Arctic Svalbard, since the poles are climatically sensitive to global change and therefore climate records from this region are of key importance. Furthermore, there are unrivalled vegetation-free exposures of sediments at a number of locations around Spitsbergen. By reconstructing local environmental and climatic changes, and improving the resolution of age constraints of the succession on Svalbard, I hope to improve our understanding of larger global climate perturbations that occurred during this time.
