Feb 2015 - Research Fellow in the Plymouth University Systems Biology Centre, with responsibility for running the genomics laboratory.

Jun 2013 - Technical Research Specialist in the Plymouth University Systems Biology Centre, with responsibility for running the genomics laboratory (next generation sequencing on the Ion Torrent PGM, digital PCR and qPCR).
Jan 2010 - Senior Technician in Plymouth University Centre for Research in Translational Biomedicine, with responsibility for CatII molecular biology research laboratories and running the FACS Aria II flow cytometer.
Apr 2007 - Senior Technician in Plymouth University School of Biological Sciences, with responsibility for supporting microbiology teaching and research and running associated CatII laboratories.
2003 - Part-time Lecturer at Plymouth City College, teaching biology and biotechnology at GCSE and A-level.
2001 - Part-time Lecturer and Demonstrator at Plymouth University, teaching microbiology for podiatrists and assisting with microbiology and biochemistry workshops and practicals.
1998 - Research Fellow at Plymouth University, developing a recombinant vaccine for Renibacterium salmoninarum (bacterial kidney disease in salmon).
1997 - Research Associate at University of Leicester, investigating the role of A-raf in the growth, transformation and tumourigenesis of mouse embryonic fibroblasts in tissue culture.

Teaching interests

I run practicals here at the University for local schools where they do not have facilities, such as PCR and gel electrophoresis.

I also run molecular biology workshops, mainly for our local postgraduates, which involves hands-on training in molecular techniques such as qPCR, digital PCR and the basics of next generation sequencing.
