Lecturer in Pure Mathematics

School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics (Faculty of Science and Engineering)

Role

I am a Lecturer in Pure Mathematics at the School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics. This year I am lecturing courses to both foundation year and final year students. I do research in algebra and geometry.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Mathematics (University of Bath, 2009) ; Thesis title: Dimer models and Calabi-Yau algebras.
  • MMath (Hons) in Mathematics (Oxford University, 2004); Scholar of Merton College.

Teaching interests

In the autumn semester I am a lecturer on the module:

  • Applied Mathematics (MATH058) for foundation year students.
In the spring semester I lecture on the final year modules:
  • Geometry and Algebra (MATH3604),
  • Optimisation, Networks and Graphs (MATH3609).

Research interests

I work in the area of algebraic geometry where it intersects homological algebra, representation theory and theoretical physics. In particular, the study of derived categories of both geometric and algebraic origin, has been a running theme of my research. I'm currently particularly interested in derived categories of gentle algebras and spaces of Bridgeland stability conditions.

My publications and preprints can all be found on the arXiv.
