Welcome to the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Plymouth University. You have already completed part of the your Nursing studies and are entering a further  fascinating intellectual and professional journey to enable you to practice as a Nurse.  You will need to stay focused and work hard, but should also aim to enjoy your studies and make the most of your time as a member of the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the University.

The sessions scheduled below will give you the opportunity to find out more about the Nursing programme in Plymouth, the programme documentation you will be using, timetables and meet some of the staff. You will also become familiar with Plymouth University both its campus and the services available to support you.

  • 1000 - 1100 Knowledge Spa Room G02

Session:  Welcome to Year 2 of the BSc (Hons) Nursing Programme

Speakers:  Maria Bennallick, Stage Lead for Year 2 and Ann Gilbert, Senior Site Administrator

This session will also provide you with information relating to the Nursing programme including programme structure, timetables, completion of timesheets and enrolment

Completion of enrolment:  Please ensure you have completed on line enrolment.  Provided you have also completed photoupload you will receive your University card at this session.  You will need to bring your passport together with any other documentation that has been requested.

There will be a coffee break from 1100 - 1130

  • 1130 - 1230  Knowledge Spa, Room G02 

Session:  Studying at Diploma Level and Library Tour and Facilities

Speakers:  Maria Bennallick, Stage Lead Year 2 and Anne Brown, Librarian

There will be a lunch break from 1230 to 1330

  • 1330 - 1430 Knowledge Spa Room G02

Session:  Introduction to POPPI, Pebble Pad and Moodle

The session will include:

Theory:  The digital learning environment (Moodle)

Practice Placements: Placement allocation and record (POW), Placement website (POPPI) Placement documentation (Ongoing Achievement record), and Pebblepad

Speakers:  Hannah Goldsmith and Karen Malkin, Student Representatives and PALS Leads

  • 1430 - 1530 Knowledge Spa Room G02

Session:  Personal Tutor and University Student Support Services

Speaker:  Maria Bennallick, Stage Lead Year 2

Student support: Personal tutor, Placement Mentor, Placement Development Team Lead, Professional Services Team, Student Representatives

Introduction to the University Student Support Services: Counselling, Student funding unit, Disability assistant

Monday 12 September 2016

This is the first taught week for year 2 of the BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) programme.   Monday 12 September 2016 is a preparation for practice day.  The detail of the timetable is currently being completed

Tuesday 13 September 2016

Modules ADN203 The Biological and Therapeutic Basic for Adult Nursing Care and ADN204 Skills and Practice for Adult Nursing Care will run from Tuesday 13 September 2016.  Once you have completed on line enrolment you will be able to access the timetable for these modules

Session:   Uniform fittings

Speaker:  Dimensions Uniform Suppliers

It is important you attend these fittings as the uniforms are only delivered a few days before your practice placement and there will not be time to exchange your uniforms. There will be opportunity for you to try on the tunic and trousers.

Session:  Occupational health appointments

Speaker : Occupational Health appointments

The first occupational health appointment will take place today. The schedule for the appointments will be available from Student Reception First Floor Knowledge Spa from Monday 19 September 2016

It is important that you attend your appointment as this is a condition to attending your placement area.  Please ensure you bring a record of any immunisations you may have had to your first appointment. It is possible your first inoculation may take place at this appointment.  There will be a series of follow-up appointments for inoculations throughout the first term and you will receive e-mail notification of these.

If you have a needle phobia please advise occupational health before you start.  Please use their e-mail address to provide this information. You will need to quote your name, date of birth and programme in any e-mail.
