Welcome to your first year in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Plymouth. You are starting on a fascinating intellectual and professional journey and you will need to stay focused and work hard, but should also aim to enjoy your studies and make the most of your time as a member of the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the University.

You will see from the timetable below that Induction week will give you the chance to find out more about the nursing course and to meet staff and fellow students. You will also become familiar with the University both its campus and the services available to support you. There are so many opportunities for you to engage with, which will add to your experience and help you grow both academically and personally.

There are a number of activities you need to complete before you start your studies with the University of Plymouth: 

  • Complete online enrolment by Monday 17 September 2018.
  • Complete photo upload by Monday 17 September 2018.

  • The forms below are based on the University's open learning platform. You will be asked to create an account to enable you to complete the forms.

  • Complete the on-line name badge form by Wednesday 13 September 2018
  • Complete the on-line self declaration form between Monday 10 September 2018 and Monday 17 September 2018

    Provision of the requested documents (below) will enable you to complete your enrolment and collect your University card. Your University card enables you to access the University library and Students' Union.

    Today's events

    Occupational health

    You will undertake a series of occupational health appointments over the next four months. It is important that you attend your designated occupational health appointment as this is a condition of attendance in placement areas.

    Your first appointment will be scheduled on Tuesday 18 September 2018

    • Venue: Babbage 403, 413, 415, 417
    Your individual appointment date and time will be available during your first day at University. One of the rooms will be designated as a reception. Please report to the reception room in the first instance.

    When attending your first appointment please ensure you bring a record of any immunisations you may have had. Please also be aware your first inoculation may also take place at this appointment and it is important that you have had something to eat prior to this appointment.

    If you have a needle phobia please advise occupational health before you start via the email below.  You will need to quote your name, date of birth and course in any email to occupational health.


    Future occupational health appointment dates and times will be forwarded to you via your University email account. The schedule of appointments will be posted on the programme moodle site for your information.

    Uniform fittings

    • Thursday 20 September 2018
    • 9.00–10.00
    • Portland Square, C1, C2, C4.

    Fittings for your uniform have been scheduled as shown above when you will have the opportunity to try on the tunic and trousers. Changing rooms will be available.

    Please ensure you attend the fitting as the order for uniforms is based on your attendance and sizing.

    Midwifery students will be provided with the following uniform:

    • Three tunics
    • Three pairs of trousers
    • Two pairs of epaulettes
    • Name badge.

    Essential information for new international students

    Monday 17 – Friday 21 September daily between 16.30–17.00 Devonport Lecture Theatre, Portland Square.
    This session is delivered by the International Student Advice (ISA) team and is an opportunity for new international students to meet the team and learn about the services they deliver. 

    During this session the team will provide you with essential information designed to help you to settle in to living and studying in Plymouth. 
    They will also advise you of your tier 4 visa responsibilities and answer any questions you may have related to your visa. 

    There is no need to book in advance, you can just turn up.

    Welcome party

    The Faculty of Health and Human Sciences invites you to attend a very special welcome party in the Graduation Marquee on Plymouth Hoe:

    Thursday 20 September 2018
    The welcome party is your opportunity to meet informally with other students new to the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences, as well as some current students and your academic staff.

    Additionally, the evening includes a complimentary welcome drink, light snacks, entertainment and a raffle for all attendees with a £100 of Amazon vouchers to be won on the night.

    *Arrive at the Graduation Marquee on Plymouth Hoe for 19:15, or meet on top of the Student Union at 18:45 to be accompanied to the venue.

    Please note that this event is invitation only, no additional guests will be allowed entry to the venue.
