Get ready to come to your new home in University-managed halls! 

Our Residence Life Team will be on hand on arrivals day to make moving in to your new home a fun and exciting experience. So if there is anything you’re unsure of, give them a call and get some answers from the people who will be with you for the year.

Essential arrival and check-in information

  • Arrivals are being split over two days, 13 September and 14 September 2019*
  • Colour-coded routes have been created for your smooth arrival. These are available below and will also be posted around the city
  • There are a number of bus-only lanes across the main routes into the city to be aware of, including Embankment Road, Exeter Street and Tavistock Road (A386). See Plymouth City Council’s parking pages for more information
  • Time slots are currently being sent out to students via email
  • It is important that you arrive at the specified time to allow for a smooth moving process for yourself and other students
  • Please print off and fill in your specific hall parking permit/window card. You will need to display this upon arrival at your hall
  • On arrival, you’ll be met by University staff and students. We will be adopting a 'drop and go' principle where you will unload straight away and then move your car. Maps for parking locations will be supplied
  • Trolleys will be available for unloading
  • Find out what to bring

  • Please refrain from ordering any shopping deliveries to halls of residence during the 13–14 September.

*International, medical and dentistry students will be moving in on Saturday 7 September. There are no specific time slots for moving in but the team will be available to assist you when you arrive.

Arrivals


Prior to arrival

  • Download your specific hall route map
  • Take note of your move-in time slot
  • Print off the relevant parking permit for your hall and ensure that it is filled in correctly.


On arrival

  • Please follow our designated route maps to your hall (not a satellite navigation system) as these routes have been carefully mapped out to reduce the volume of traffic and disruption
  • Park in the drop-off zone and display your parking permit
  • Collect your keys and a member of the team will escort you to your room
  • Unload your vehicle as quickly as possible
  • Relocate your vehicle to a longer stay car park (maps will be provided).

Medicine and dentistry student arrivals

Your hall room contract begins on Saturday 7 September 2019, so you are able to move in any time or day, on or after 08:00 on this date.


Arriving By Car

Please note, you do not have an allocated time slot for arriving, however, if you intend to arrive by car we please ask that you arrive at the halls between 08:00 and 23:00 on Saturday 7 September and Sunday 8 September. If this will not be possible, please let us know. You can park in University car parks on the Saturday and Sunday only. Please be aware there are public roads around the halls and you will be ticketed if you park here without paying.

When you arrive via the recommended routes, please collect your keys from your hall volunteer at Portland Square A block. Your hall volunteer will direct you to your room. if you have any queries on the day please contact your hall volunteer on the number given in the arrival information email. 

Arriving By Public Transport

If you are arriving by public transport, you are free to arrive at any time after 08:00 on Saturday 7 September. On our website, we have provided some useful information about getting to the University of Plymouth campus.


Arrivals after 9 September

If you are going to arrive from 9th September onwards, please head to your Hall Reception (see Hall map attached) between to collect your keys:

Mary Newman | Francis Drake – Collect from Francis Drake Reception, 9:00 – 18:00

Pilgrim | Radnor | Gilwell | Robbins – Collect from Gibbon Street Reception at Pilgrim Hall, 8:30 – 20:00

If you arrive after this time, please contact your Hall Volunteer on the number above.

From 9th September onwards, if you know you will be arriving after 23:00, please email residencelife@plymouth.ac.uk as we will ensure the keys are at the security lodge. If your travel plans are delayed on the day and you will arrive after 23:00, please contact your Hall Volunteer who will ensure your keys are at the security lodge.


International arrivals

Your hall room contract begins on Saturday 7 September 2019, so you are able to move in any time or day, on or after 9:00 on this date.

Event photography and video
Please be aware that some of the University of Plymouth's public events may be attended by University photographers and videographers, for capturing content to be used in University online and offline marketing and promotional materials, for example webpages, brochures or leaflets. If for whatever reason, you or a member of your group, do not wish to be photographed, please make yourself known to staff working at the event on arrival or to the photographer.
