Santander Graduate Internships

What is the Santander Internship scheme?

Through the Santander paid internship scheme, final year students and recent graduates are able to gain valuable work experience within a small or medium enterprise (a business with less than 250 employees and an annual turnover of less than £50 million).

Through the internship scheme, an intern will be paid £306.25 per week for up to 10 weeks. Half of this is paid by the SME and the other half is paid by Santander.

For the students, it’s an excellent opportunity to gain vital work experience and for the SME, it’s a chance to work with talented young professionals.

Funding will be allocated on a first come, first served basis to those which meet the eligibility criteria and at the discretion of the Student Jobs team within the Careers and Employability Service.

How to apply

Step 1  Make sure you read our criteria document carefully and seek advice if you are unsure of your eligibility.

Step 2 – You can secure your graduate internship in one of two ways. You can either approach employers to see if they can offer you an internship (read our guide for support), or you can apply for one of the Santander internship opportunities that are advertised on myCareer.

Step 3 – Once you’ve secured a position submit an application form via email to our team at

If you are an international student on a Tier 4 visa, read our guidance on working hours.

The funding will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, therefore it is advised that you submit your application as soon as you have secured a work experience position.

Hear from our students

Megan Pearce – BSc (Hons) Environmental Science

Santander gave me the opportunity to gain experience in an industry that I have not previously had exposure to. I had considered a technical role in the environmental sector and this experience confirmed for me that this is what I would like to pursue.

Emilie Ehrhardt – BSc (Hons) Animal Behaviour and Welfare

This bursary enabled me to complete this internship with good gear and thereby helped me develop skills and build up an impressive portfolio to use for future employment.

The scheme has proved invaluable

"Nick Cox has proved to be a valuable asset for our team at Purple Motion. Coming from the University of Plymouth as a recent first class graduate, Nick has been able to exceed in areas including both front-end and back-end development and he continues to come up with further development ideas which are seeing us being able to create custom software.

Nick's involvement through the scheme has proved invaluable, as has our relationship with the University of Plymouth, which we hope to work with more and encourage more students in the work-place. The internship scheme is a great way of finding talent to support your business."
