Book Festival: Annika Bautz - Pompeii: Myth Busting

Starting with Bulwer Lytton's 1834 novel The Last Days of Pompeii, Dr Annika Bautz will discuss the role of Victorian book illustrations in creating and disseminating the myths about the legendary Pompeii that are prevalent to this day, such as decadent Romans, lion-fighting gladiators and others.

Dr Annika Bautz is a lecturer in 19th century literature at University of Plymouth. Her publications include The Reception of Jane Austen and Walter Scott: A Comparative Longitudinal Study (Continuum, 2007).

Free admission.
