Join Plymouth City Council for a free film screening of 'A Silent Transformation' at the University to celebrate Co-operatives Fortnight.

The film is about the transformative power of the co-operative model and sets out to explore the innovative self-help efforts of diverse communities.

Plymouth has a proud co-operative history dating back to the 1850s. In 2018 the Labour administration of Plymouth City Council has pledged to double the size of the sector in the city. Pledge 10 (of 100) says: “We believe there is scope to increase the number of businesses owned by the people that employ them. As we’ve shown with community energy, people should be able to come together to use their buying power to improve the quality of the goods and services they receive. We will map the current work of co-operatives and mutuals within the city and set out an action plan to double the size of this sector by 2025.”

The welcome and introduction will be made by Cllr Penberthy, Cabinet Member for Housing and Co-operative Development. Coffee and conversation will follow the film screening.

Register your place via the Eventbrite webpage*.

A follow-up breakfast event on 6 July at the reception room of Plymouth City Council's Council House is an opportunity to hear local success stories from Plymouth Co-operative members and to discuss feedback from this evening's screening.
