iSPER People, Organisations and Work (POW) research group seminar with Professor Donna Ladkin.
This seminar will describe a recent investigation into the role of leadership in keeping high risk organisations safe which Donna has been involved in over the last two years.
Based in a gas receiving terminal in the North of England, the study focuses particularly on how leadership is successfully distributed through all levels of organisation to create a culture in which ‘everyone feels responsible’, yet everyone is also ‘prepared to be checked’ in order to ensure the plant’s safe operations. Analysed through the theoretical lens of Karl Weick’s notion of ‘heedful inter-relating’, the study indicates the kinds of leadership practices which encourage this culture, as well as the organisational systems and structures which play important roles in its maintenance.
This seminar is aimed at Plymouth University academic staff and postgraduate research students.
