The South West Maritime History Society, supported by the University's Marine Institute, is holding its 3rd annual lecture in what is becoming a popular event of the SWMHS calendar.
This year's speaker is Captain Alastair Letty.
The subject ‘decommissioning offshore oil platforms’ serves as a reminder of the relatively short history of the exploitation for energy in UK waters. Exploitation in the North Sea first commenced in 1964 – as some will remember.
The presentation will also cover the work of the Pioneering Spirit, the largest construction vessel ever built.
This free lecture is open to all and the topic will be of particular interest to many studying maritime subjects at the University. Please note that seating is available on a first to book basis. Doors open at 18:45 for 19:00 start.
Please contact Martin Hazell (email: m.hazell7@btinternet.com / tel: +44 (0)1752 550768) with your name, contact details and how many of your family/friends will be attending. An answerphone message may also be left on the above number.
