A presentation by Graeme Berry, AECOM, Katy Toms, AECOM and Stuart Cheesman, SWH Ltd focusing on taking Derriford Hospital's helipad from concept to detailed design through to its current construction.

Derriford Hospital is the designated major trauma centre for the peninsula and receives approximately 400 patients per year as emergencies needing transfer by air. The current helicopter landing area is a small grassed space located near the Emergency Department, however it is only recognised under Grandfather Rights; it is not a helipad.

Funding of £2 million was agreed in 2014, with aid from the HELP Appeal (Helicopter Emergency Landing Pads) to build a new helipad. The new helipad will provide access to the hospital by air 24 hours a day, reducing lengthy ambulance transfers and ensuring patients receive emergency specialist care quickly. Search and Rescue helicopters will now be able to land in the hospital grounds and Devon and Cornwall Air Ambulances will be able to run night flights upon completion of the project.
