Charley's War is the greatest ever British war comic.

From the horror of the Somme, to the dole queues of the Great Depression, creators Pat Mills and Joe Colquhoun offer an unsentimental and often harrowing vision of the Great War.

This exhibition celebrates both Colquhoun’s work and the dexterity of Mills’s writing. With his astonishing level of detail, Colquhoun captures the brutality and mundanity of the conflict, life on the home-front, behind the lines and even in the German trenches. Charley's War predates themes of War Horse, The Monocled Mutineer and Birdsong via the disposable medium of a children’s comic.
