The Community and Primary Care Research Group are setting up a Realist Group, which is being led by Dr Sarah Rybczynska-Bunt (currently working on Engager).

For our first session we will be exploring the realist concept of mechanism by reading two papers. The dominant understanding on mechanisms in evaluative realist research appears to be the mechanism resource and reasoning position put forward by Pawson and Tilley (1997), but this is not the only perspective on mechanism.

We will focus on Lacoutue et al (2015) paper on ‘The Concept of Mechanism from a Realist Approach?’, which explores different perspectives of mechanism and Blom and Moren’s (2011) ‘Analysis of Generative Mechanisms’ which presents a more critical realist perspective on how mechanisms operate.

The session starts at 11:00. To book a place please email laura.gill@plymouth.ac.uk.
