Join us at the launch of Plymouth University’s women’s network for an afternoon and evening of discussion, inspiration, networking and refreshments.
The debate continues and develops about women in the workplace and there has been a lot of press interest about issues such as the lack of women on boards and the low numbers of female leaders in pretty much all industries (ours being no exception).
The evening will explore what specific challenges exist for women
in the HE sector and how these are best addressed – both societally but also
within our own University. What are the implications of leadership styles? What
sort of support should we be providing for women? How can we better understand
the impact of unconscious bias? What about the use of language more
Semple OBE will lead a session on the benefits of having an agenda that is
female focused. Exploring diversity of thought, Maggie will present an
engaging session to stimulate debate and encourage small actions that will

thought-leader on diversity, inclusion and ethics with a particular emphasis
on diversity of thought, leadership development and governance. Maggie is also
a successful business woman and entrepreneur with an international profile; she
is regularly asked to chair conferences, facilitate private meetings and
negotiate difficult situations. She is described as ‘gently formidable’ and is
a voice of reason.
Following Maggie’s talk there will be drinks and canapés available and a discussion and debate based upon staff’s aspirations for Plymouth University’s women’s network.
