121 Guidance appointments
13:15–16:00

For the first time the University is offering 121 guidance appointments with a University of Plymouth Careers Adviser in London.

These appointments are a unique opportunity for graduates to get in-depth help and advice from one of our professional advisers.

  • clarify your career direction or goals
  • focus on which roles to apply for and how to go about entering a particular sector
  • evidence your skills and experience for a job
  • choose and make an application for a postgraduate programme
  • receive in-depth support with CVs, job applications and preparing for interviews and assessments.

There are a limited number of 121 appointments available so please book your place now. 


London Alumni Network Autumn gathering
18:30–23:00

This relaxed and informal evening will be a great opportunity to catch up with your old university friends and make new connections. The evening will include a panel discussion on the subject of 'How to be successful in London'. Hear from our panel of alumni, entrepreneurs and business leaders about how they forged successful and innovative careers in London and overcame the obstacles in their path, followed by pizza and networking.

Hanger 58 is a cafe, bar and event space for London’s founders and investors, located just 50 metres from Old Street Roundabout, the perfect spot to meet, relax and network with your fellow Plymouth graduates.

Tickets cost £5 per person. The ticket price includes pizza and three drinks, all proceeds raised from the ticket sales for this event will be donated to support student scholarships and bursaries at the University. Check our Facebook page for updates.

The dress code for this event is smart casual.

Meet the panel

Antony Micallef 

Antony graduated with a BA (Hons) Fine Art in 1998. He was taught by the great landscape painter John Virtue, who in turn was taught by the last of the post war painters the renowned Frank Auerbach. Widely recognised as one of the finest painters in contemporary art today, he has work in collections all over the world and has exhibited in group shows in institutions such as the National Portrait Gallery, Royal Academy, Tate Britain and the ICA London. His recent solo show ‘Raw Intent’ has just been exhibited at the Pedder Building with Pearl Lam Galleries in Hong Kong.

Mark Ussher

Mark is an entrepreneur and strategist with an extensive marketing background. Mark now works with a number of solopreneurs to grow their personal and professional brands, human-to-human. Mark has worked with celebrity clients, including most recently Bear Grylls. During his time working with Bear he co-founded and developed a new innovative brand before managing its successful transition to the now owners IMG.

Mark set up and developed The Sports Media Agency back in 2012, originally a website publishing company but now a charity driven business with a portfolio of websites including Run, Cycle and Sport for Charity. As part of his work he has helped raise millions of pounds for charity and has a keen interest in developing sustainable business practices.

 

Mark has worked extensively with print and broadcast outlets, including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and the Times. He has also been involved with large projects with online media giants such as Unilad, The Lad Bible and Red Bull.

Mark is a keen sport enthusiast and family man, he has tried his hand at pretty much every extreme sport going but now finds his Zen on a golf course.

Mark holds a BA in Combined Business & IT from the University of Plymouth.

Maria Thaller

Maria graduated from the University of Plymouth in 2014 with a BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy.

During her time as a student, Maria was involved with a variety of societies and it was in her final year that she applied to the University’s Roland Levinsky Memorial Fund for a grant. The grant enabled Maria to travel to North Vietnam for 3 months. She worked in a remote leprosy colony in Van Mon, in a hospital in Hanoi and at a rehabilitation village located just outside the city, with soldiers injured during the Vietnam War and children disabled as a consequence of Agent Orange.

After returning to the UK in time to graduate, Maria moved to Torquay and began working as a physiotherapist for the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.

Since 2017 Maria has been working at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in London. She is about to rotate to work in paediatric neurology, an area which she is passionate about.

Moon Ali-Choudhrey

Director for Microsoft Alliance – Capita Plc

Moon graduated from the University of Plymouth in 2011 with a BSc Computer System & Networks and is currently managing the Microsoft Alliance, driving success through digital cloud transformation and change management in the Software Division of Capita Plc.

Moon started his career working in Plymouth branch of Primark in 2006, his professional career in IT, business and sales spans over ten years work for organisations such as Canon UK, TP-Link UK and Microsoft UK.

Rachel Lambert-Forsyth 

Rachel graduated from the University of Plymouth in 2007 with a BSc (Hons) Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology followed by a MSc in Sustainable Environmental Management in 2008. Following graduation Rachel moved to London and started work at the Royal Society of Biology in an entry level office role but rose quickly through the ranks and is now the Director of Membership and Professional Affairs with a remit for membership recruitment and retention, professional development and training, accreditation, and national and regional events. Rachel manages a large team and works with the Chief Executive and Trustees to ensure good governance of the Royal Society of Biology. In her spare time she is Trustee of the Royal College of Nursing Foundation and Governor of her son’s school.

Olivia Allan

Olivia Allan graduated from the University of Plymouth in 2017 with a BA (Hons) in Art History. After completing her degree, Olivia moved to London to pursue a career in the art world. Soon after, she became an Art Technician for Sotheby’s, a London auction house. Here, she was able to experience first-hand the art auction world and arrange gallery spaces for a wide range of art.

Just over a year on, Olivia has progressed into the Sotheby’s Book Department where her role is now more focused on antiquarian books.
