Lord Mayor's Festival 2018
  • Piazza, Armada Way, Plymouth City Centre

Save event

The popular annual Lord Mayor's Festival event will again be taking place in the city centre, welcoming the new Lord Mayor into their role and giving the people of Plymouth the opportunity to celebrate the occasion.

The fun-filled festival has something for all the family with this year's event following a Dinosaur theme. There is a jam-packed programme of entertainment to enjoy during the day, including performances from local community groups. Young explorers will also love the opportunity to uncover fossils in their own dinosaur dig and learn all about prehistoric creatures in the Science Dome - and don’t forget to follow the dinosaur trail for the chance to win some great prizes.

Dinosaur Runway

Children are invited to try out the University's legendary Dinosaur Runway in the Piazza from 10:00-16:00.

  • Get your dino-boots on and walk the Dinosaur Runway to find out how palaeontologists use fossils to determine the size and speed of dinosaurs living millions of years ago.
  • Make your own dinosaur footprints to discover what dinosaur you might have been.
  • Learn about how your dinosaur lived, what they ate and even what they may have looked like.

Dino Trail

There will be a trail around the city centre for children to take part using their Lord Mayor’s Festival leaflet. You will need to answer the questions themed around Dinosaurs by visiting the six points and reading the factual information about an individual dinosaur. Complete the trail for your chance to win some great prizes! The trail is sponsored by The Entertainer and dinosaur information is provided by the Earth Science team at the University.

Visit the Lord Mayor's Festival webpage for the full schedule of events taking place in the city centre.
