Dr Dave Simmonds and Dr Martin Borthwick from the University of Plymouth’s School of Engineering reveal how modern civil engineering is tackling the problem of protecting coastal communities from the sea.

Using the ongoing research undertaken by the University’s COAST Engineering Research Group and their experience from working in the field, they will highlight the challenges faced by civil engineers who try to tame our seas.

They will also explore some of the state-of-the-art approaches currently being used to design and construct the structures that protect our shorelines.

Tickets cost £2 per person and advanced booking is advised via the above link or pay on the day if seats are still available.

This is a ‘Museum On Tour’ event for The Box, Plymouth. This event is part of the museum's ICE 200 programme marking 200 years since the founding of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
