The University’s Centre for Eyecare Excellence is introducing a new clinic to control myopia (short-sight) in children and young adults who are myopic or at risk of being myopic (i.e. due a to strong family history).

The clinic, based on Gibbon Street, is offering new optical treatments to slow down the progression of the condition, as promising results from several clinical trials suggest that wearing special contact lenses slows down myopia progression. Myopia is often considered a mere inconvenience, given that spectacle or contact lenses are needed to see clearly – but the condition also puts the eye at a higher risk of developing serious sight-threatening conditions such as retinal detachments and glaucoma, so it’s important to manage.

Clinics are held on Friday afternoons starting from 18 January 2019. These clinics will run in the semester, linked to the teaching clinics but may also be available outside of semester time.

Please call us on +44 1752 583100 or email cee@plymouth.ac.uk to make an appointment. We're open from Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00 during the academic year.
