Plymouth Armed Forces Day is a spectacular and exciting day of entertainment, with air displays, parades, demonstrations, competitions and activities for the whole family.

The event is an opportunity for everyone to say a big 'Thank You' to the Armed Forces community and to celebrate the outstanding contribution it makes to our country.

This year’s family-friendly Armed Forces Day commemorates the 100th anniversary of the RAF. During the event the Royal Navy, Army, RAF, Royal Marines and veteran’s organisations, charities and the emergency services will showcase their services in a variety of 'villages' set out across the Hoe. Over 100 exhibitors will be on display with static and interactive activities.

Highlights include the Field Gun competitions and the Parade of Standards which will see cadets and veterans march across the Hoe Promenade.

From 18:00, a variety of performers (including the Military Wives Choir, Freddie Mercury Tribute, Capitol Motown and Show Band) will take to the main stage for a free outdoor evening concert, treating the audience to some great performances against the stunning backdrop of Plymouth Sound.

Visit the Plymouth Armed Forces Day website for the programme of events and further information.

Joining Forces with the University of Plymouth

See how our collaboration with the armed forces is creating opportunities, from student learning and academic research, to support for veterans and service personnel visit.

The University's partnership with Help for Heroes

The pioneering collaboration between the University and Help for Heroes Plymouth Recovery Centre aims to bring additional therapeutic benefit and value to H4H beneficiaries (wounded, injured and sick serving and veteran personnel, their families and dependents) through educational and research engagement.

Our mechanical engineering students joined Help for Heroes during Plymouth Armed Forces Day in June 2016 to showcase their innovative handcycle. This has been designed and developed by our students with the aim of attempting the women's world land speed record in Nevada in September 2016 which they successfully achieved.

Visit our partnership page for further details.
