Come and join us for a wonderful week of events celebrating the contribution of refugees to our society.

A welcome is offered to everyone to come and join in these events that are free to all, whether outdoor events or those facilitated during the week at various venues.

  • Saturday 17 June: Refugee Week opening event: Plymouth Hope Festival and Family Fun Day
  • Sunday 18 June: Calstock Trip and Fun Day
  • Monday 19 - Friday 23 June: School Art Exhibition
  • Tuesday 20 June: A 'Responsible Entrepreneurship' Taster (led by the University's Futures Entrepreneurship Centre, a workshop for refugees to creatively explore responsible entrepreneurship and starting up small businesses)
  • Tuesday 20 June: Fire Station Visit
  • Tuesday 20 June: Plymouth University Drop-in Information Hub (get information on access to higher education, research and other work the University is doing)
  • Tuesday 20 June: Film Screening
  • Wednesday 21 June: Red Cross Welcome Day
  • Thursday 22 June: Devon and Cornwall Refugee Support Open Day
  • Thursday 22 June: Film Screening and Interactive Talk with Q&A
  • Friday 23 June: START (Students and Refugees Together) Walk to Bovisand
  • Friday 23 June: Cultural Kitchen 'Open House'

The Gifts of Displacement - an interactive talk by Saif Ali

Inspired by his recent TEDx talk, Saif Ali, a former refugee from Iraq and founder of Integr8 UK, will reflect on his own 18-year journey of seeking asylum. 

Saif will shine a light on how shifting our perception towards displacement can help turn adversity into a birthplace for a refound authenticity and purpose.

  • 18:00 - Arrival time (tea and coffee will be provided)
