The Institute of Health and Community invites you to attend this seminar delivered by Professor Brigitte Nerlich from the University of Nottingham.
The seminar focus is on communicating risk and uncertainty in the context of climate change.
Professor Brigitte Nerlich is a leading figure in the science communication field. Her seminar will compare the meanings of ‘risk’ and ‘uncertainty’ in ordinary and scientific language use and reveal the origins of some complexities and confusions. It will also reflect on the political use of risk and uncertainty language either to strengthen or weaken climate change science and climate change policy actions.
Brigitte Nerlich is Professor of Science, Language and Society at the University of Nottingham. She is programme leader for a five year £1.6 million Leverhulme programme “Making Science Public: Challenges and Opportunities” (with Dr Sujatha Raman) and author of 11 books, approx. 150 journal articles and 60 book chapters. She writes a regular blog on ‘Making Science Public’.
