The Effect of Researchers on Their Research Partners: Angie Logan

Angie's presentation will focus on her experiences of delivering her research which is a type of physiotherapy for people with severe stroke during their inpatient rehabilitation early after their stroke. It will explore how the research has effected patients, relatives, clinicians, organisations and her as a researcher. She will explore examples of each of these.

Biography: Angie is based in the School of Health Professions and is a physiotherapist and Clinical Doctoral Research Fellow funded by the National Institute for Health Research. She is undertaking a randomised controlled trial with embedded qualitative component, to determine the feasibility of practising standing and moving between sitting and standing using a standing frame, for people with severe stroke as part of their hospital-based rehabilitation early after stroke.

Unplanned Researcher Effect: Verity Campbell-Barr

Verity will explore how her presence as an international researcher resulted in unintended bias amongst her research participants, while opening them up to alternative perspectives. Drawing on an 18 month research project exploring the notion of pedagogic love in early childhood education and care in Hungary, she considers how pedagogue students and colleagues sought to reaffirm what they thought she wanted to know. She also considers whether her British academic self altered the ways in which her Hungarian colleagues worked.

Biography: Verity is an Associate Professor in Early Childhood Studies at the Plymouth Institute of Education. Her research interests focus on the quality of early childhood services, particularly in relation to the role of professionals in providing quality services. Her latest research project focuses on interpretations of Child-Centred practice in Early Childhood Education and Care in different European countries
