The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (Devon and Cornwall Area branch) are delighted to host this lecture which will be given by Matthew Burke, Head of Technology at Williams Advanced Engineering.

Williams Advanced Engineering is the technology and engineering services business of the Williams Group. In addition to providing engineering, testing and manufacturing services to blue chip customers Williams actively supports UK technology start-ups through its Technology Ventures arm. 

Following an introduction to Williams Advanced Engineering the speaker will explain how Technology Ventures supports start-ups with access to its technical, commercial and promotional capabilities and investment from the Foresight Williams Technology EIS fund. 

Come and hear how Williams are helping to support innovators developing products ranging from energy saving aerofoils for supermarket fridges to 3D-printed bionic arms.

Speaker biography

Matthew Burke is Head of Technology Ventures at Williams Advanced Engineering. His primary responsibility is the Foresight Williams Technology EIS Fund which invests in technology focused UK SMEs and Start-ups. He joined Williams in 2011 spending his first three years at the Williams Technology Centre Qatar leading their stationary energy storage technology commercialisation programme. He returned to the UK in 2014 to take on wider technology commercialisation responsibilities at Williams Advanced Engineering including the development and leadership of the Aerofoil Energy partnership. Prior to Williams he has held engineering R&D positions at Tata Motors, Torotrak, and Ford Motor Company. He holds an MSc in Dynamics and Control from the University of Bath, and is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
