Join us for an evening with The Rt Hon Norman Baker, former Transport and Home Office Minister in the 2010-15 Coalition government.

Norman will reflect on his time as a Minister in the Department for Transport, and look forward to the transport challenges of the future.

The lecture is organised by Plymouth University and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, and supported by South West Smart Applications Ltd and the Sustainable Earth Institute.

Speaker biography

The Rt Hon Norman Baker was born in Aberdeen, but moved to East London in 1968. He holds a BA degree in German and History after graduating from the University of London in 1978.

He held the role of Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary in 2002-06 and, with two former environment ministers, tabled a cross-party Early Day Motion in support of the Climate Change Bill drafted by Friends of the Earth. In July 2007 he was appointed as Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office and Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, and in December the same year, became Shadow Secretary of State for Transport.

He became Minister of State for Transport in 2010 and in the October 2013 reshuffle he was appointed to the Home Office as Minister of State, overseeing issues relating to national security until 2014.
