All staff are required to complete a mandatory equality and diversity training package when they join us, to ensure that they're fully informed of the Equality Act 2010 and associated opportunities to advance equality. Our careers service offers specific advice for LGBT students and promotes Stonewall's Starting Out Guide to recruitment.
We have a friendly LGBT society for students, which has fun whilst raising and addressing important issues. An LGBT campaigns chair is elected by members of the Students' Union and has a seat in the student parliament. Find details of student societies, social events and campaigns on the Students' Union website.
The University has a number of gender neutral toilets on campus that can be found at the following locations.
We work closely with our LGBT staff forum, who meet regularly (colleagues can find more details on our LGBT intranet pages) and we're proud to be a member of the Stonewall Diversity Champions programme. LGBT student representatives are consulted on matters such as the development of the student handbook. Check out more about us in Stonewalls’ Gay by Degree Guide.
The University recently developed a staff and student trans policy and offers trans awareness training sessions for staff throughout the year. The Gender Identity Research and Education Society (gires) also offers an e-learning resource.
