Head of Library & Digital Support

This new role of Head of Library & Digital Support (LDS) is an exciting opportunity to lead University library services plus develop wider initiatives across the Library and Academic Development directorate.
The Library is a successful and well-regarded service delivered by a talented and dedicated team. As Head of LDS you will be responsible for all aspects of library provision supporting teaching, learning and research. You will work in partnership with students, academic colleagues, professional services and stakeholders to create, promote and maximise effective use of library services resulting in demonstrable impact on the outcomes of our end users.
Library & Academic Development consists of LDS and Academic Development (AD) which comprises Educational Development, Digital Education, Student Learning Services and the English Language Centre. The ethos of LAD is to provide a consistent and integrated academic skills service to both staff and students where practice is collaborative, shared and seamless. Extensive work has already been undertaken to map activities across the directorate and the next stage is to combine it into a programme of support, identifying and filling gaps, as appropriate.

What does Plymouth and its surrounding area have to offer?

Plymouth is located in the beautiful South West of England – an ideal location for leisure and learning, with plenty of quiet spaces and recreational opportunities. Plymouth enjoys a combination of modern city living and rural charm. It is around three to four hours by train to London and there are ferry links to France and Spain.

Plymouth also has a fantastic range of nurseries and schools available, including many judged to be good or outstanding by Ofsted, including our on-campus nursery Freshlings, which holds an Ofsted rating of 'good'.

Getting started – living and working in Plymouth
Plymouth and the surrounding area offers a wide choice of affordable housing within easy commutable distance to the University campuses. The city offers a variety of options with areas such as Stoke, Peverell, Mannamead and Hartley all within close proximity to the main University campus with easy access to the city centre and parks. Just outside the city, areas such as Plympton and Plymstock offer a wide range of housing with excellent community facilities such as shops, schools and libraries. Towards the north of the city is Derriford, which is also home to Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, the largest hospital in the South West and location of the University’s North Campus, as well as being only 10 minutes away from Dartmoor National Park. A wide selection of large detached properties can be found within this area. Just outside of Plymouth is the South Hams, a region of rural and coastal Devon – to the north side, it stretches to the edges of Dartmoor National Park; to the south, it covers one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the UK from Torbay to Plymouth.
