Grant support may be available for current students and recent graduates1 for overseas mobilities (work or study) so long as they end by 31 August 2025 and are linked to your degree.
The grants are to support the worldwide mobility of participants and vary according to the country of your mobility and your personal circumstances. Grants will be awarded according to need with priority being given to those that most need the support.
1. A recent graduate is a participant who carries out and completes their mobility within one year of their graduation, including any mobility undertaken before graduation. The point of graduation is when you are told that you will be awarded your degree. Applications must be made whilst you are still enrolled.

What do I need to apply?

To apply for a grant you will need evidence of formal approval of your mobility. The evidence required depends on your mobility.
  • For study abroad this will be your approved study abroad application form.
  • For a placement year you will need approval of your mobility from the placement team.
  • For vacation work you will need a signed confirmation of your placement from your placement provider.
You will be required to upload your evidence to the grant application form.
You will be advised of the outcome of your application in July 2024. If successful, your grant will be paid, in full, into your bank account about one month before you begin your mobility.

Additional financial support

Additional financial support is available if you are from a disadvantaged background or are from a group that is underrepresented in overseas mobility.  Please note documentary evidence is required2.
If you are from either or both categories, please let the Global Opportunities team know by selecting the most appropriate group(s) in your application form and uploading your evidence.
The Overseas Mobility grant is not meant fully to fund your mobility abroad and you are still entitled to any current financial support that you get from Student Finance. If you need any assistance or have any questions about this, please contact the Student Financial Support Team .
2. Evidence such as a letter from a relevant statutory authority verifying your status e.g., your Maintenance Loan letter confirming your eligibility to receive the maximum loan, UC award letter, SEN statement.
