Emmanuel Ejiro Eshofonie - BSc (Hons) Computing

"My decision to study at the University of Plymouth was the best decision I could have made to further my studies. I chose the University of Plymouth because it is very well ranked according to the Guardian University league table; I also examined the testimonies from my friends and several more international students.

After completing a 20 month diploma programme in software engineering at Aptech in Nigeria, I chose to further my studies in computing. Studying computing is giving me a wide range of skills in areas such as computer networks, web application development, game and software development etc.

Plymouth is quite a small city which makes it peaceful and relatively safe and most places are within walking distance. There are a number of attractions in Plymouth including Smeaton’s Tower, The National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth Hoe and a few others.

The best thing about studying computing at the University of Plymouth is the feeling of safety and knowing that my lecturers and tutors are always ready to help.

It was not hard adjusting to the culture in England as the people here are very friendly, social and very polite.

I received help settling in from a number of people when I first arrived: the staff in the accommodation office was very helpful, they ensured I was well settled and that I had accommodation of a certain standard. Dr Mark Dixon, a lecturer in computing, played a key role in familiarising me with other Aptech students within the University system. My friend Akinmade Victor who came here a year earlier also helped and made it much easier for me to settle in.

Based on my experience over the last few months in this school, I most certainly can say coming to the University is worth the cost and as Nelson Mandela said: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” and a Tibetan proverb says: “A child without education is like a bird a without wings”.

Plymouth is indeed the home for international students. If your goal is to get good value for your money while studying, you should consider Plymouth."
