Musica Viva launches new season

New concert series and events at the University of Plymouth

Internationally acclaimed performers are bringing everything from Beethoven to Gershwin to the University of Plymouth’s latest Musica Viva season.

This year’s Musica Viva programmes are very special. Our first three events – all informal talks with music – are devoted to compositional creativity and the union of music and poetry. The concerts that follow, with their deep expressivity, passion and virtuosity, transport you into a world of artistic wonders. All of the Musica Viva artists are excited about sharing them with you!

The season begins on Monday 18 September with an ‘in conversation’ event, featuring the Master of the King’s Music, Judith Weir on the day she receives an Honorary Doctorate in Music as part of the University’s Graduation ceremonies.
Judith, whose recent orchestral overture Brighter Visions Shine Afar was performed at the Coronation of HM King Charles III, will talk about her music, the inspirations for her creativity and her current projects.
Dr Robert Taub himself performs Piano Passions – a very special solo recital that includes some of the most challenging and expressive piano music ever composed – on Saturday 14 October. That concert is prefaced by two preview events on the 10 and 12 October.
The season continues with Virtuoso Violin on Saturday 11 November, and a visit from the London Gershwin Players on Saturday 27 January 2024, before concluding with the Kleio Quartet on Saturday 2 March.
